Y N0t 2 #26-Philip II, Alexander the Great, and Darius II

Philip II was a son of Amyntas III and the father of Alexander the Great.  He was the 18th king of Macedonia, ruling from (359–336bc).  He was the one to finally bring peace to his country, and later conquer all of Greece by using military and diplomacy.

Alexander the Great was the son of Philip II and began his rule at the age of 20 when his father's body guard assassinated his employer.  He instantly killed off any opposers to discourage attempts on his own life.  While Alexander was fighting the cities of Miletus, Mylasa, and Halicarnassus, king Darius II of Persia spent his time amassing an army.  In 333B.C. when the armies of Greece and Persia met, it became clear Alexander had the superior military.  Darius wound up fleeing, leaving behind his family.  For this act of courage displayed by her son, Darius' mother disowned him and adopted Alexander. In 331, Alexander had refused peace offerings from Darius enough and decided to finally take over Persia.  After Darius lost at Gaugamela, he fled once again and was assassinated by his own army.  In 323B.C., Alexander suffered an inevitable fate of death.  Whether that was due to malaria or poison is unclear.  Since he did not have a successor, his empire began to fall apart.
